Mathieu Rudelle, Wine Consultant
Growing up between Bordeaux and the Languedoc-Roussillon region in a wine merchant family is probably why I am passionate about wine and gastronomy. Like most kids in the south of France, I had my first glass of wine (with some water!) when I was 5 years old.
After studying economics in college, I decided to turn my passion into a career and got a degree from a wine school in Bordeaux, the wine capital of the world. Right after graduating, it was in Bordeaux that I began my life in the field as a “courtier” or broker, exploring vineyards and wineries every day looking for the best bottles and being an intermediary between merchants and estates. That allowed me to know the region like the back of my hand.
Then, I worked as a merchant and consultant for nearly two years alongside my father, who has been a “négociant” since the 1970’s. I recently moved to Sarasota, Florida.
In 2013, I started visiting vineyards all over France and tasting as many wines as possible. In 2014, I visited hundreds of wineries and tried thousands of wines. My explorations take place in all wine-making regions of France including the smallest and unknown ones, in order to find the best products within each area. It’s also about getting a personal opinion of wines regardless of their reputation or prices. This thorough work has allowed me to know the very best places, as well as getting a deep understanding of the various terroirs and endless nuances of French wine.
This blog is about sharing my work and my passion with both professionals and non-professionals. It is for whoever has interest in wine, vineyards, and the beautiful scenery that comes with it. You’ll find tasting notes, comments, and recaps, as well as various thoughts regarding the wine world.
